These COVID cancellations are causing big problems. It’s causing a huge issue for locks, trifectas, skips and cry-fectas. I’ve talked to some other players and we have settled on some solutions for the remainder of this screwed up COVID NFL season.
Here are some questions and answers you should read:
Q: What if someone ends up picking 12 games and everyone else picks 13 due to a cancellation?
A: This happened last week with a couple of players. They will get no skips this week; everyone else will get one skip. This will even things up.
Q: How will we prevent this going forward?
A: After we even things up next week, we will start picking every game and have NO SKIPS. This way, if a game is canceled, it will have the same impact for everyone.
Q: But, wait, what if I locked a game that was canceled or included it in my trifecta?
A: This is the main concern. I’ve talked to some other players and, while we can’t prevent this 100-percent, we will approach it this way:
- You should wait until Sunday morning to make your picks. You should visit ESPN.com or NFL.com to confirm that a game has not been canceled. I’ll add the links to these sites when I post games. If a game has been canceled, there will be an alert high up on one of those sites. Obviously, if the game is canceled, don’t lock it or include it in your trifecta. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK BEFORE YOU PICK!
Q: What if I make my picks on Saturday and a game gets canceled?
A: That’s tough luck. You lose the game. I recommend not taking the risk. Wait until Sunday morning to pick. Unfortunately, we just don’t have any other recourse at this point.
Q: What about Sunday night or Monday night games? Can I include these in my lock or trifecta?
A: Yes, but if the games are canceled, you will not get a lock or a trifecta that week. Do so at your own risk!
Q: What if I end up with only TWO Trifectas and win (or lose) both?
A: To get a bonus win, you must WIN THREE trifecta games. To avoid a cry-fecta, you must WIN at least ONE trifecta game. If you end up with two trifecta games because of a COVID cancellation and win both, you will not get a bonus win. If you lose both, you WILL get a cry-fecta, because you must WIN at least ONE trifecta game to avoid the penalty.
I know this is complicated and frustrating. But there’s no other way to manage things unless we completely eliminate locks and trifectas. No one seems to want that, so just wait until Sunday to pick and understand that it will be risky to include Sunday night and Monday night games in your locks or trifectas going forward.
